Navamsa Chart (D9) Calculator
Your D9 Navamsa — the chart behind the chart, with Vargottama and Karakamsha.
The Navamsa (D9) is the most important divisional chart in Vedic astrology — the chart behind the birth chart. It reveals the inner strength of each planet, the fate of marriage and partnership, and your dharmic path, telling you whether a promise made in the birth chart (D1) actually holds. This tool computes your full D9 from real positions and reads what generic 'D9 grid' calculators leave out.
What you'll see
- Your D9 (Navamsa) Lagna and its ruling planet
- Every planet's navamsa sign, dispositor and D9 dignity
- Vargottama planets — same sign in D1 and D9, strongly reinforced
- Your Karakamsha — the soul planet's navamsa sign
- A grounded reading of your destiny and marriage layer
What is the Navamsa (D9) chart?
The Navamsa, or D9 chart, is the ninth divisional (varga) chart — each sign of the zodiac is divided into nine parts of 3°20' each, and the navamsa is the sign that part falls in. It is read alongside the birth chart (D1) and is traditionally given almost equal weight, because it shows the underlying strength and ripeness of every planet.
Where the D1 (Rasi) chart shows the outer events of life, the Navamsa shows the inner reality — especially marriage, the spouse, dharma and the second half of life. A planet that looks strong in D1 but falls badly in D9 often under-delivers; the reverse is the classic 'late bloomer' pattern.
Vargottama and the D9 Lagna
A planet in the same sign in both the birth chart and the Navamsa is called Vargottama — 'best in the varga' — and is considered as strong as an exalted planet, because its promise is reinforced across both charts. This tool flags every Vargottama planet for you.
The D9 Lagna (Navamsa Ascendant) and its lord describe the deeper dharmic theme of the life. Reading it together with the D1 Ascendant gives a fuller picture than either chart alone.
Karakamsha — the soul in the Navamsa
The Karakamsha is the sign the Atmakaraka (the soul planet — the planet at the highest degree in your chart) occupies in the Navamsa. In Jaimini astrology it is one of the most direct windows into the soul's agenda and the area of life where deep growth is sought. Most free D9 calculators never compute it; this tool does.
Frequently asked
What is a Navamsa (D9) chart?
The ninth divisional chart, made by dividing each sign into nine parts. It is read alongside the birth chart and shows the inner strength of each planet, marriage, and your dharmic path — the reality behind the promise of the D1 chart.
How is the D9 chart calculated?
Each 30° sign is split into nine navamsas of 3°20'. A planet's navamsa sign is found from its exact degree, so the D9 needs your precise birth time. This tool computes it from real Swiss Ephemeris positions.
What does Vargottama mean in the navamsa?
A planet is Vargottama when it occupies the same sign in the birth chart (D1) and the Navamsa (D9). Such a planet is strongly reinforced — considered comparable to an exalted planet — because its promise is confirmed across both charts.
Why is the Navamsa important for marriage?
The D9 is the primary chart for marriage and partnership in Vedic astrology. The D9 Lagna, the 7th house from it, and Venus and Jupiter in the navamsa describe the spouse and the quality of married life more reliably than the birth chart alone.
