Sutra 1.13

इच्छा शक्तिरूमा कुमारी

Translation Will is the power of the Goddess, the young maiden.

Meaning In this sutra, the absolute freedom of consciousness is identified not as a static state, but as dynamic volition, known as iccha shakti. This will is not the limited desire of the ego seeking external objects, but the spontaneous, uncaused impulse of Shiva himself to manifest the universe. It is the first vibration within the silence, the pure "I want" that precedes any specific thought or action. In the Trika tradition, this power is personified as Uma Kumari, the young maiden, symbolizing a force that is ever-fresh, unbounded by past conditioning, and pregnant with infinite potential.

The imagery of the young maiden suggests a quality of playfulness and immediacy. Just as a child's desire arises instantly and without hesitation, the divine will operates without the friction of deliberation or doubt. When a seeker recognizes that their own deepest impulse to know, to be, or to create is actually this same divine power flowing through them, the separation between the human actor and the divine source begins to dissolve. The will ceases to be a tool for personal gain and becomes the very mechanism of liberation, aligning the individual heartbeat with the rhythmic expansion and contraction of the cosmos.

Contemplation Throughout your day, pause whenever you notice a desire or an intention arising, whether it is a urge to speak, to move, or to change your focus. Instead of immediately judging the desire as good or bad, or rushing to fulfill it, rest your attention on the split second before the thought forms. Feel the raw energy of that impulse as a surge of life force. Silently acknowledge, "This is not my small wanting; this is the young maiden, the divine will, dancing in me." Allow this recognition to infuse your actions with a sense of lightness and sacred spontaneity.

A contemplative reading in the spirit of the Kashmir Shaivism (Trika / non-dual Tantra) tradition — an aid to reflection, not a substitute for a living teacher or the classical commentaries.
