Sutra 3.4

शरीरे संहारः कलानाम्

Translation In the body, there is the withdrawal of the limited powers.

Meaning This sutra points to the culmination of the individual's journey within the realm of form. The term kalam refers to the limited powers or aspects of consciousness that have contracted to create the sense of a separate self, including the senses, the mind, and the vital energies that sustain the ego. Samsara or worldly existence is maintained by the projection of these powers outward, creating a world of duality. Here, the text indicates a profound inward turning where these scattered forces are gathered back into their source within the physical vessel itself.

The location specified is the sharira, the body. In Kashmir Shaivism, the body is not an obstacle to be discarded but the very temple where this dissolution occurs. When the practitioner rests in the recognition of their true nature as Shiva, the fragmented energies that usually fuel desire, fear, and identification with the small self cease their outward agitation. They do not vanish into nothingness; rather, they are re-absorbed into the fullness of the Supreme Consciousness that already permeates every cell. This is the death of the limited individual and the simultaneous awakening to the universal life that throbs within the flesh.

Contemplation Throughout your day, whenever you feel a surge of emotion or a tightening of identity around a specific thought, pause and feel the physical sensation of that energy in your body. Instead of acting on it or analyzing it, silently intend for that specific tension to dissolve back into the silent awareness that holds your entire form. Visualize the scattered energy flowing inward like water returning to the ocean, leaving only the stillness of your true nature behind.

A contemplative reading in the spirit of the Kashmir Shaivism (Trika / non-dual Tantra) tradition — an aid to reflection, not a substitute for a living teacher or the classical commentaries.
