Sutra 3.5

नाड़ी संसार-भूत जय-भूत कैवल्य-भूत पृथक्त्वानि

Translation The separate states of the network of channels, the world, the limited individual, and the state of absolute freedom.

Meaning This sutra maps the landscape of consciousness as it appears through the lens of separation. It lists four distinct realms that the unawakened mind perceives as real and independent: the subtle physiological network of energy channels (nadi), the gross external universe (samsara), the contracted sense of being a limited doer or enjoyer (anu), and even the concept of liberation itself (kaivalya). In the dualistic view, these are treated as separate compartments of existence, each with its own rules and boundaries.

However, in the light of Trika Shaivism, this listing serves to reveal the illusion of their separateness. The text implies that while these appear as different "states" or "places" to the fragmented awareness, they are in truth nothing but modifications of the one divine consciousness. The error lies not in the existence of the body, the world, or the soul, but in the belief that they are isolated from one another and from Shiva. Even the pursuit of liberation becomes a trap if it is viewed as a distant goal separate from the present reality, for true Kaivalya is the recognition that the separator never existed.

Contemplation Throughout your day, whenever you notice a sharp division between your inner feelings, your physical surroundings, your sense of self, or your spiritual aspirations, pause and silently ask: "What is the single awareness in which all these appear?" Do not try to merge them intellectually; simply rest in the feeling that the observer of the body, the world, and the desire for freedom is the same singular presence underlying them all.

A contemplative reading in the spirit of the Kashmir Shaivism (Trika / non-dual Tantra) tradition — an aid to reflection, not a substitute for a living teacher or the classical commentaries.
