Sutra 2.7

मातृका चक्र सम्बोधः

Translation Awakening to the wheel of the mother-letters.

Meaning This sutra points to the realization that the very fabric of your consciousness is woven from the matrix of sound, known as Matrika. In the Trika tradition, the alphabet is not merely a human invention for communication but the primal energy of Shiva vibrating in distinct frequencies. These letters are called "mothers" because they give birth to every thought, every perception, and every object in your experienced reality. The "wheel" or chakra signifies the dynamic, circulating power of these sounds that spins the universe into existence within your own awareness.

To be "awakened" to this wheel means to shift from being lost in the meaning of words to recognizing the conscious energy that powers them. Usually, you look through language to see objects, remaining unaware of the luminous substance of speech itself. When this awakening occurs, you realize that the world is not separate from you; it is a projection of this divine sonic energy. You stop being a passive victim of mental chatter and recognize yourself as the sovereign source from which all letters and all worlds emerge.

Contemplation Throughout your day, pause whenever you speak, read, or hear a sound. Instead of focusing immediately on the semantic meaning or the message, rest your attention for a brief moment on the raw vibration and energy of the sound itself. Feel the silence from which the sound arises and the silence into which it dissolves. Recognize that this vibrating energy is your own consciousness taking form, and silently affirm, "I am the awareness powering these letters."

A contemplative reading in the spirit of the Kashmir Shaivism (Trika / non-dual Tantra) tradition — an aid to reflection, not a substitute for a living teacher or the classical commentaries.
