Sutra 3.12

धी वशात् सत्त्व सिद्धिः

Translation Through the power of focused awareness, the perfection of pure being is attained.

Meaning In this sutra, the term dhi refers to a specific kind of intellect or awareness that has been stabilized and turned inward, no longer scattered by external objects or internal chatter. It is not merely logical reasoning but a steady, one-pointed gaze of consciousness upon its own nature. When this awareness becomes the master (vashat) of the mind, it ceases to be a tool for analyzing the world and becomes the vehicle for realizing the Self. The seeker stops trying to construct reality and instead allows the inherent clarity of consciousness to shine forth without obstruction.

The result of this mastery is sattva siddhi, the accomplishment or perfection of purity. Here, sattva does not simply mean moral goodness or a calm temperament in the conventional sense; it signifies the luminous, transparent quality of existence itself, free from the heavy obscurations of rajas (activity) and tamas (inertia). When the intellect is fully surrendered to the divine will within, the individual soul recognizes its identity with the universal light. This perfection is not something newly acquired but is the uncovering of the pristine state that was always present, now made stable and unshakeable through the power of unwavering attention.

Contemplation Throughout your day, whenever you notice your mind scattering into worry, planning, or reaction, pause and silently invoke the power of dhi. Instead of trying to fix the thought or push it away, simply rest your awareness on the space in which the thought appears. Ask yourself, "Who is aware of this?" and hold that question without seeking an intellectual answer. Let your attention become so steady and gentle that it acts as a mirror, reflecting the moment exactly as it is, thereby allowing the natural purity of your being to emerge from beneath the noise of mental activity.

A contemplative reading in the spirit of the Kashmir Shaivism (Trika / non-dual Tantra) tradition — an aid to reflection, not a substitute for a living teacher or the classical commentaries.
